The White Star is without doubt one of the loveliest hotels I have ever stayed at. What makes it really special is the warmth and professionalism of the staff and the welcoming atmosphere they obviously work very hard to maintain. It is the complete package - great rooms and a fantastic bar and restaurant.

Having spent at least 2 nights a week there for the last 8 months, I can safely say there there is nowhere else in the local area I would rather stay. The White Star has become a home from home. I've tried a number of other local hotels and nowhere else comes close.

The food is consistently excellent, and the hotel accommodation is very comfortable. The rooms have a lovely feel to them and the bathrooms are great too.

As a corporate client, all of our requirements have been taken care of . We have held a number of successful meetings and entertained clients with the support of the White Star's professional staff.

All in all I couldn't be happier with the service I have received, so - thank you White Star!

Starting when we got there... the staff were helpful and friendly..
I went off to park the car (5 minute walk away) as the hotel dosen't have its own car park.. but it is at the end of the road, so really not a problem..
Our room was top notch, it was at the front of the building (majestic).. really clean, bathoom was imaculate... bed was really comfortable.. any way unpacked.. went to bar downstairs for a beer (had a couple of pints of Dorset Gold lovely) and ordered lunch... I must say how good the food was.. mixed bread and olives to start and then I had the Belly of Pork with bubble and squeek my wife had the asparragas penne ravioli pasta thing.. never had a dessert as I was full..
I asked the bar staff if they could order me a cab for 7 that night which they did no problem...
went off shopping.. etc.. got back had another pint of Gold..and got ready to go out... walk in shower was awesome.. so many hotels/B&B's have silly showers this one was good..managed to get another half of gold in as the Cab was on time, we went for out for the evening (northern soul do in Shirley)..
remember getting back getting in to bed and saying how comfortable it was.. woke up at 8am..breakfeast.. again the food was top notch at the white star.. I went for the salmon and scrambled eggs on toast, tea and fresh orrange and my wife.. i think it was cinammon eggy bready with banana.. that was really good..
Unfortunatly we only spent one night at the hotel.. but will be going back next time i'm down at Shirley djing..
If the staff or managment do read this... Thank you for a relaxing stay... and also thank your staff for being helpful, when we asked questions and chatted with them..

Late Rooms Review

I booked this hotel as we had a power boat experience booked for the Saturday daytime and wanted to make a weekend of it, and we therefore needed somewhere comfortable to stay. Of all the other hotels or B&Bs in Southampton, this seemed to be the best in terms of location, price and quality. I was not disappointed - when we arrived, we ordered a coffee and a slice of cake each, which only set us back £4.00! Checking in is undertaken upstairs from the bar, but the staff were eager to escort us when we were ready. We booked a standard room, the 'Brittanic', which was (as described) compact but the bathroom was as big as the bedroom and the much hyped luxury shower was fabulous. After a long day, and aching muscles, the bed was very comfortable and every claim about the rooms, therefore, had been met. The only quibble I had was that the mini bar was not switched on when we arrived and in the morning we discovered that, having turned it on, it had cooked the milk and all other drinks inside (luckily there was no chocolate...). We let the receptionist know on check out and they apologised. We enjoyed a good breakfast (not included in the price of the room) and as we arrived before 9.30am we had the 'buy one, get one free' offer on 'The English'.
I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the White Star Tavern and would definitely come back, should the occasion ever arise.

Just wanted to thank you very much for our time at the White Star. we both had an amazing time.
Thought the service from the staff was really really good, but I'd always thought that when I come into the bar.
The food was to die for,the best pigeon I've had, and the lamb was cooked perfectly,

Pippa looked after us really well, she was really sweet, knew about everything on the menu, and its always impressive when your order is taken without a pen and paper, a simple thing but makes the difference..

The room was very clean, and loved the shower could have stayed in there all day.. had a great nights sleep, may have been aided by all I'd drank :)
Only one of our room keys worked, It worked getting us into the hotel but not the room, I guess it may have been for another room!

"I've used The White Star on several occasions now for various business functions: once for a gala dinner for 30+ delegates, and a second time for an off-site meeting with an overnight stay.

In each instance the food has been delicious, the service excellent, and I've received numerous positive comments from my team on the style and decor adopted throughout the premises.

Thanks to the hotel staff for making our events such a success - I'm glad I found this place and we will definitely be returning!"
