The White Star Celebrates Local Produce
The White Star Tavern joined forces with Sunnyfields Farm to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Hampshire Food Festival. The evening event delighted guests with a first class menu packed with local culinary delights and produce, accompanied by a fantastic collection of locally crafted beers, ciders and wines. The evening kicked off with sounds from Jonny Moody and a glass of crisp elderflower champagne as the sun set over the edge of the New Forest. The marquee was beautifully set with an array of picnic tables offering the chance for friends and newly made acquaintances to mingle. With all the chefs in view in their open kitchen, the fare commenced with Hampshire Ham Hock terrine & deconstructed piccalilli or Laverstoke park mozzarella stuffed Courgette Flowers, followed by free range Hampshire Lamb 3 ways or Nanny Williams blue & spinach ravioli. Bowman's Ales, 146 Cider and Wickham Wines were on hand to supply the liquid refreshments, with Loosehanger and Sarah's Scrumptious Preserves showcasing her chutneys for the cheese course. New Forest strawberry carpaccio, rosary goats cheese ice cream, apple balsamic jelly & basil foam to finish was the icing on the cake! Ian Nelson from Sunnyfields compered the evening and encouraged all the producers to speak about their produce to help the guests understand the importance of supporting your local producers. Ideal Leisure's Executive Chef, Jim Hayward said ‘this night was one of the best cooking nights of my career so far. There was a great team spirit both front and back with the added pressure of cooking live in front of one hundred local foodies. We brought together some of the best local Hampshire food hero's and gave a true celebration of what's great about our county of Hampshire. I feel the night put Southampton firmly back on the food map. We can't wait to do it again next year so watch this space'. ‘Foxxbandits' and Jonny Moody entertained the guests until the sun set on a glorious summer evening. Ideal Leisure would like to thank all those who supported the event. ****ENDS****
