We are now starting to see unusual and very interesting grape varieties infiltrating the chardonnay and shiraz mafia. These wines tend to come from lesser known (to us) areas and have evolved organically without the commercial influences imparted on our more well known wine offerings. Hence they are generally a dream to match with food.
Cotes du Rhone Blanc Alain Jaume
Viognier, Roussanne, Clairette grape varieties, pale yellow colour, brilliant with a green tinge. Primary aroma of flowers and stone fruit on the palate, the fruit is immediately present with touches of almond and white peach.
Friendly Gruner-Veltliner Laurenz V7
This is a genuine family father and son operation. Austria's wonder grape puts in another star turn. Now resplendent in bright green livery, the Friendly GV delivers its customary this wine's got it!and bewildering array of delicious flavours; peach, apple, pepper, you name it!
Aglianico del Vulture Terra di Vulcano Bisceglia
A ripe, juicy Aglianico with perfumed black cherry, blackberry & olives on the nose. & dark, ever so slightly bitter fruitsThe palate is soft & fresh with a good balance between savoury, ripe tannins.
St Nicolas de Bourgueil Gerald Vallee Domaine de la Cotelleraie
100% Cabernet franc NOTE TO BE SERVED CHILLED
If you like your wine not too sweet with a nice leafy raspberry fruit flavour & a distinct gout de terroir, then pile in here. There aren't too many lighter fruit driven reds that can be chilled these days!
